Achievements

1970

  • First opened and registered as a morning group for 24 children between the ages of 3 and 5 years, with no outside area.

1979

  • Lobbied County Hall to change Parking by-laws to be able to provide a playground for the children.

1980

  • Celebrate our 10th anniversary.

1983

  • Expanded to a double session group providing a service for 30 children and their families.

1990

  • Awarded funding from The Cripplegate Foundation and St Luke’s Trust for Improvements to the building.
  • Building extended to comply with Children’s Act Regulations.
  • Celebrate our 20th anniversary.

1996

  • Awarded lottery funding for new office and extension.

1997

  • New office and extension completed.
  • Start fundraising for an Intercom Security System.
  • Start lobbying Islington Council for outside shrub area.
  • Introduced wraparound service for working parents.

1998

  • Introduced a colour code and uniform.

1999

  • Lobbied the local council with letters, phone calls and visits from the nursery children to convert a piece of disused land into a playground.

2000

  • Winners of Partners in Excellence Award.
  • Land finally given to the nursery after a long hard battle. The area was renovated and landscaped by children and their parents.
  • Celebrate our 30th anniversary Changed status from pre-school to Nursery.

2002

  • Fundraised to spruce up outdoor area.

2003

  • Jackie Morgan won a Mayor of Islington’s Civic award for working with Children and families in Islington.

2007

  • Moved to temporary nursery premises in Midway House, whilst our building was again extended.

2008

  • Returned to refurbished and extended premises at Rahere House.
  • Become part of Moreland and King Square Children’s Centre.

2009

  • Fundraising and campaigning started to finish the extension and provide a sleep and quiet room for under 3’s.

2010

  • Celebrate our 40th anniversary.

2011

  • New room completed able to offer 8 additional places for two year olds.

2012

  • Callie Ceurvels achieved her Early Years Foundation Degree.

2013

  • We have commissioned and implemented an assessment programmed which tracks the children’s progress termly in each area of learning.
  • We have incorporated two professional local young men’s talent into our weekly curriculum to provide a Mini football programme playing on the local community pitch and Drama with Arnie to encourage activity and fitness to gain confidence and have fun. They also provide positive male role models to the children.

2014

  • Entered a contract for integrated early years provision for 2 year olds at the St Luke’s Community Centre.

2015

  • Early year provision opened providing 24 part time places for 2 year olds.
  • Callie Ceurvels achieved her Early Year Professional Status.
  • The Big Lottery money provides two yoga sessions per week for one year.
  • We have also introduced Forest School activities.

2016

  • Achieved our Healthy Early Years Status

2017

  • Moved to a temporary location at Toffee Park as part of the King Square Estate development.

2019

  • Achieved our Healthy Early Years Sliver Status

2020

  • Celebrated 50 years of providing childcare for the community.
  • Emma Keast achieved her Level 3 certificate for SENCOs in early years.
  • Early Years provision for 2 years olds at St Luke’s Community Centre Closed although we still have strong connections with the community centre.
  • Returned to refurbished and extended premises at Rahere House where we opened our first baby room (Under two’s)
  • Due to the high demand for childcare we was able to keep open toffee park as well as Rahere House. We now cater for over 100 families.
